DB Cargo is making changes to its Management Board, preparing Europe’s largest freight operating company for further growth with an international management team.
At its meeting on 17 December, the Supervisory Board of DB Cargo AG appointed Pierre Timmermans, 57, as the new Board Member for Sales and Marketing beginning April 1, 2019. The Dutchman has over 20 years of rail experience and logistics expertise, having served as CEO of Czech rail freight operator AWT, CEO of the PSA International container port group, and board member and head of contract logistics at Frans Maas, among other roles. His predecessor, Raimund Stüer, left the Group on November 30, 2018, by mutual agreement.
Marek Staszek, 49, who is the current CEO of DB Cargo Polska, will move to the Management Board of the parent company on February 1, 2019. He brings with him 25 years of experience in rail freight transport. The Pole has served on the Management Board of DB Cargo’s Polish national company since 2010, first as Board Member for Finance and since 2014 as the Chairman of the Management Board and CEO. Staszek’s previous positions have included CFO at PCC Rail S.A. and CEO at PTKiGK in Rybnik. Michael Anslinger, the current Member of the Management Board for Production, will take on new responsibilities at the DB Group.
“By bringing Pierre Timmermans and Marek Staszek on board, we are not only adding two industry experts to our team; we are also gaining international expertise so that we can grow in Europe,” said Alexander Doll, Chairman of the Supervisory Board. “There is enormous potential for rail freight transport in Germany and on European routes, and we need to take advantage of those opportunities,” he added.
Dr. Roland Bosch, Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of DB Cargo, said: “I am delighted about the swift and forward-looking reorganization of our Management Board. Together with this new team, we will move DB Cargo back in the right direction and help shift more traffic to environmentally friendly rail.”
