Hungary: Retro painted children’s railway vehicles were introduced in Budapest

More and more heritage rail vehicles are being renewed on the narrow gauge Budapest Children’s Railway. During renovations, particular attention is paid to ensure that some locomotives and wagons are restored to their original look.

Last year a special, big open compartment passenger carriage (operated in good weather in summer) was put into service that was repainted in the 1960s colour scheme (grey handrails and a thin navy blue strip above the racks) and the Mk45,2006 diesel locomotive with the orange-red look of the 1980s.

This spring, a little open compartment passenger carriage returned in its former splendour; and during this summer two special traction vehicles also appeared on Budapest Children’s Railway network: Hungary’s oldest C50 locomotive was unveiled in its original black colour on the 20 August bank holiday. From the beginning of August, the Mk45,2001 locomotive, with its original classic engine, can also be seen on the lines.
