As the outbreak of the coronavirus (Covid-19) is spreading rapidly throughout Europe and is forcing most countries to impose social distancing or confinement, we would like to give you an update on Lineas’ operations and measures being taken.

The core markets we operate in have imposed various measures to decrease the spread of Covid-19, ranging from closing their borders (Slovakia, Czech Republic), carrying out medical checks at the borders (Germany, Austria), confining its citizens (Belgium, Netherlands) to going in lockdown (France, Spain, Italy). The situation changes on a daily basis. We keep monitoring and adapting our actions accordingly.

However, all countries agree that transport is one of the crucial sectors to keep society going. As such, they have not put limitations on the transport of goods within and through their territories and we have been able to continue our operations. Over the past days, we were able to drive nearly all of our planned trains thanks to our teams going the extra mile.

As Lineas we see it as our mission and responsibility to help keep the European supply chain going - our teams are ready to help find solutions in this difficult period.

Extra measures taken
Safety and health are key for our people and operations at all times and can never be compromised. Apart from our usual safety procedures, we have put in place additional measures to safeguard the continuity of our services in a safe and healthy environment:

  • We have installed a taskforce within Lineas that closely follows the evolution of the Covid-19 virus and the measures we have to take as a company
  • All colleagues who can work remotely have been asked to work from home for the period of 16th March 2020 – 3rd April 2020
  • Colleagues whose jobs require them to be physically present in our offices, stations or other sites are asked to avoid physical closeness
  • We are stressing the importance of basic hygiene rules:
    • Hand-washing with water and soap
    • Avoiding hand-shaking and kissing
    • Covering nose and mouth with the elbow or a tissue when coughing or sneezing
    • Avoiding contact with anyone who has a fever or a cough
  • We are doing our best to ensure that employees have sufficient and continuous access to disinfectants, gloves and disposable tissues
  • We have asked all employees to avoid travelling and attending external meetings, events, trainings and conferences
  • We have asked all employees to avoid inviting or hosting external visitors in the office but instead use Skype for meetings whenever possible
