France: SNCF makes its legendary “Mistral” train available for events
SNCF is opening up its heritage by making its legendary Mistral train available for onboard events.
Launched in 1950, the Mistral express train operated between Paris and Marseilles until the introduction of the TGV in 1981.
In 1965 the company’s flagship train was integrated into Trans Europ Express (TEE). When the Marseille-Nice line was electrified in 1969, the journey from Paris to Nice was reduced to nine hours.
The Mistral’s last existing carriage is henceforth available for onboard receptions, drinks, dinners and short evening events as well as for seminars and product launches.
Composed of Inox vintage passenger coaches including a bar, dining car and carriages that can be configured and customised to meet specific needs, the Mistral is an invitation to travel and can be made into an original and unusual venue. Events can be held while the vehicle is by the platform, in the station or in motion.
According to Vincent le Poittevin, Director General of Trains Expo Evénements SNCF (SNCF’s events subsidiary), this new service is aimed at companies, institutions and event organisers.
The initiative serves a double purpose:
To showcase a feature of France’s railway heritage: the Mistral is a time machine and as a public company, SNCF has a duty to keep its memory alive.
To offer the use of an original venue in a world focusing on the search for new destinations, perspectives and sensations. The Mistral intends to give this initiative new momentum!

Meeting of the UIC Special Group SG ATTI to be held on 10 June 2015
The UIC Special Group SG ATTI (Agreement on Technical Transfer Inspection for freight wagon exchange) will meet at UIC Paris Headquarters on 10 June 2015.
ATTI, created following a decision by UIC’s General Assembly in December 2013, is open to any Railway Undertaking (RU), member or non-member of UIC, who wants to speed up the interchange of wagons.
The key issue in the transfer process of trains from one RU to another is given by the requested technical inspection which happens at any previously agreed station. The ATTI agreement simplifies this process and ends the inspection.
The real challenge remaining is to apply the required safety measures with the implementation of rules issued in appendix 9 of the GCU (General Contract of Use).
The members have been developing specific handbooks since last year. The General Assembly 2015 will be asked to validate the first step to run a Quality Assurance System QAS.

Australia: Infrastructure Audit highlights the urgent need for rail funding
The Australasian Railway Association (ARA) welcomed the release of an Infrastructure Australia (IA) Audit Report on 22 May 2015, describing it as a timely and directional insight into Australia’s infrastructure requirements.
The landmark inquiry by the Federal Government’s independent infrastructure adviser looks into Australia’s transport, water, energy and telecommunications systems and argues that without action, congestion could cost our country $53 billion in just over 15 years with road travel times in major city corridors expected to increase by at least 20 per cent in the same period.
Interim Chairman, Bob Herbert AM, said the Report is “line ball” with ARA’s concerns about growing congestion in our cities that must be addressed by governments, federal and state, working together to underpin our transport infrastructure requirements.
“Government, with the support of the private sector, must take decisive action to meet the nation’s burgeoning infrastructure needs,” said Mr Herbert.
“Rail infrastructure underpinning passenger transport must be in place to meet population growth which, according to the Audit, will swell demand for public transport by 55 per cent in Sydney, 121 per cent in Melbourne and around 89 per cent in other capital cities.
“This is a massive challenge and it will require an imaginative approach as to how best to invest, fund and finance these infrastructure necessities.
“Most of all, planning to meet these infrastructure needs requires a collaborative approach between governments and commitments that endure their election cycles. There will be great benefit flowing to the economy from greater certainty from a well-planned, committed, Australia-wide pipeline of projects.
“The rail industry welcomes IA’s call to work together and introduce long term planning into how best to meet our infrastructure needs and the emphasis cannot only be on roads but must also extend to urban passenger rail infrastructure,” Mr Herbert said.
The ARA also supported the Report’s key findings for freight rail infrastructure, in particular the benefits of growth in modal share of rail in handling the overall freight task, expected to grow by 80 per cent by 2031.
“Rail will need to play a growing role in the movement of goods between ports and inland freight terminals, as well as the movement of containerised and general freight over longer distances; the Inland Rail must play a big part in this freight future,” continued Mr Herbert.
“Furthermore, short haul rail utilisation between ports and intermodal terminals is another key issue for rail freight infrastructure and we need the support of the Federal Government to help primary industries, such as mining and agriculture, have a greater ability to move their goods on rail reliably and competitively.
“Overall the Infrastructure Australia Audit Report is timely and makes a significant contribution to identifying Australia’s infrastructure needs. Now is the time for action,” Mr Herbert concluded.

United States: Amtrak to begin installation of inward-facing cameras in locomotives
Taking an additional measure to improve safety, Amtrak will install inward-facing video cameras in the fleet of ACS-64 locomotives in service on the Northeast Corridor by the end of 2015, and all subsequently delivered locomotives will have the equipment installed before they go into service.
These systems will be another tool for Amtrak and industry regulators to monitor locomotive and engineer performance.
“Inward-facing video cameras will help improve safety and serve as a valuable investigative tool,” said Amtrak President & CEO Joe Boardman. “We have tested these cameras and will begin installation as an additional measure to enhance safety.”
Installation will first occur in the 70 ACS-64 locomotives that will power all Northeast Regional and long-distance trains between Washington, New York and Boston, as well as Keystone Service between New York, Philadelphia and Harrisburg, Pa. Amtrak is developing a plan for installation of inward-facing cameras in the rest of its locomotive fleet, including Acela Express power cars and diesel locomotives.
Amtrak has outward-facing cameras on locomotives, along with advanced systems that monitor locomotive and engineer actions.

Belarus: Belarusian Railways have implemented the MERITS-PRIFIS databases
One of the key objectives of Belarusian Railways is to improve its services and to attract more passengers. For this purpose it aims to provide its customers with the latest reference information.
Thus, Belarusian Railways has recently implemented the MERITS-PRIFIS databases, which contain information on train timetables in Western Europe. As a result, passengers can visit a major ticket office of the Belarusian Railway and find out how to get from one place to another in Europe, for instance, from Warsaw to Rome, by train. They will be provided detailed information including that on interchanges, ticket price, etc. The system makes it possible to purchase a ticket for a definite train provided there is available accommodation therein.
Belarusian Railways is increasing the availability of its services due to significant growth of passenger transport between Belarus and the states of Western Europe. The volume of passenger transport grew by 17.5% in March 2015 compared to February 2015, and there was also a 2.2% growth in April 2015 in comparison with March this year.
Passengers may get the necessary information to plan their trip to Europe at the following railway stations: Minsk Pasažyrski (international ticket offices, ul. Kirova, 2; ticket office No.5, railway terminal), Orša Centraĺnaja, Maladziečna, Baranavičy Palieskija, Baranavičy Centraĺnyja, Luniniec, Brest, Pinsk, Homieĺ, Žlobin, Mahilioŭ, Babrujsk, Asipovičy, Salihorsk, Viciebsk, Polack.
Belarusian Railways has included data on Belarusian trains in this international reference system.
The single customer database was developed under the MERITS-PRIFIS project. The database allows the members to enhance the sales within their own booking systems all over Europe. Almost all European railway authorities are members of the project. The data is upgraded on a weekly basis.
ILCAD Campaign – Istanbul 3 June 2015
150 participants including 17 speakers from 10 different countries participated in the ILCAD 2015 International Conference on “How to improve safety at and around level crossings” hosted by TCDD on 3 June 2015 at Haydarpasa Station in Istanbul, Turkey.
During a press conference in front of Haydarpasa Station Mr Ismail H. Murtazaoglu, Deputy Director General of TCDD, and Mr Jerzy Wisniewski, UIC Director Fundamental Values Department were invited to briefly give their positions on level crossing safety on the occasion of ILCAD 2015. They officially opened the conference using a remote control to close a level crossing installed outside of the building. It was the occasion to invite all participants to join the conference inside the building.
The full-day conference was introduced by Mr Murtazaoglu and Mr Wisniewski who welcomed the 150 participants and 17 speakers.
The conference was composed of three sessions, the first one chaired by Mr Jerzy Wisniewski, UIC, the second one by Mrs Mumbi Kamuri, Rift Valley Railways (Kenya/Uganda), and the third one by Mr Ibrahim Halil Cevik, Director International Relations of TCDD.
Jerzy Wisniewski showed the new ILCAD 2015 video targeting pedestrians misusing a level crossing: “Take your time, don’t risk your life!”
The conference programme included:
Mr Jan Grippenkoven, researcher and specialist in human factors in the aerospace industry (DLR, Germany), gave a human centred perspective on level crossing accidents
Mrs Virginie Taillandier, LC Programme Manager at SNCF, gave an overview of safety at LCs in France

Mr Dale Jones/OPTEX (Europe) Ltd and Mr Dave Farman/TEW UK presented “LIDAR” which is an obstacle detector to improve safety at level crossings
The second session chaired by Mrs Mumbi Kamuri, Rift Valley Railways was dedicated to “Education and awareness campaigns” and included the following speakers:

Mr Tamo Vahemets, CEO of Operation Lifesaver Estonia (OLE) and Chairman of the Safety Committee of the Supervisory Council of Estonian Railways (EVR) presented the Estonian network
Mr Edgars Vilcans, PR Manager at Latvian railways (LDZ) gave an overview of the Latvian railway network:
Mr Sandy Bell-Ashe level crossings safety campaigns manager at Network Rail, and Mr Robert Cann, Education Officer at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, UK presented a new approach to level crossing safety awareness in the UK
Session 3 on analysis, evaluation and risk assessment was chaired by
Mr Ibrahim Halil Cevik, TCDD Director of International Relations, and included the following speakers:
Mr Tobias Schaller, Head of Section Scientific Bases, Ministry of Transport of the Swiss Confederation (FOT) presented the refurbishment and monitoring of Swiss level crossings
Mr Jarmo Koistinen, Finnish Transport Agency (FTA) gave a safety evaluation of LCs in Finland from the users’ view
Mr Selahattin Sivrikaya, Head of Permanent Way Department, Turkish State Railways – TCDD presented the “Measures to be taken at level crossings and related implementation in Turkey”
Finally, Mrs Isabelle Fonverne, UIC Safety Senior Advisor and ILCAD Coordinator, gave an overview on the UN-ECE Group of experts (GE1) on improving safety at level crossings created at the initiative of UIC and UNECE in Geneva – more information at http://www.unece.org/trans/roadsafe/eg_level_crossings_05.html and showed the film co-produced by UIC, UNECE and FOT on the occasion of ILCAD 2014 and to launch this Group of Experts to raise awareness among decision makers and the public of the risks at level crossings:
She also reported on the evolution of ILCAD over the last few years. She insisted on the fact that behind this international conference to officially launch the event, over 40 countries are participating and supporting this initiative with smaller or bigger campaigns that many of them are tweeting or posting messages, photos or reports on their activities on Facebook on the same day. There is a list of potential hosts for the four future events to launch ILCAD campaigns 2016-2019, so it is never too late to send an application for 2020!
The target audience in June 2016 will be decided in the ELCF and ILCAD Task Forces in autumn 2015 (date and location to be determined). Spain: Adif launches Barcelona suburban ERTMS tender
Adif has been cleared by the Spanish government to tender for the overlay of ERTMS on Barcelona’s suburban rail network. The Spanish infrastructure manager is investing €92.9 million upgrading the signalling system on a 56-kilometre section between L’Hospitalet de Llobregat and Mataró in a move to increase capacity and improve service reliability.
A total budget of €92.9m has been set for the contract, of which €56.8m would cover the design and installation over 21 months of electronic interlockings, train protection and energy supply systems as well as fixed and mobile telecommunications including GSM-R. Maintenance over 20 years is expected to cost a further €36.1m.
Adif has also opened the tendering process of a separate 20-year contract to design, install, and maintain a new informatics system at Barcelona centralised traffic control (CTC) centre, which will be worth around €10.4m. The winning bidder will be responsible for migrating the centre from the current CTC system over a six-month period while ensuring train services remain unaffected.
The Barcelona CTC currently controls all conventional lines in the Barcelona and Girona provinces, and selected lines in the remaining Catalonian provinces of Tarragona and Lleida.

Belgium: New short distance rail links between Belgium and European economic hubs
B Logistics Group expands SWL network with Rotterdam and Köln Shuttles
The B Logistics Group is steadily expanding its own fast and direct European network for distributed transport and has added two short-distance destinations: scheduled rail connections, with a transit time known in advance, between Belgium and the economic centres round Rotterdam and Cologne. Thanks to these rail links, customers in the Netherlands and Germany can also avail themselves of the Xpress services of B Logistics: the Swiss Xpress, the Austria Xpress and the Slovakia Xpress. Moreover they are connected to the national Belgian SWL network.
Following the long distance connections Swiss, Austria and Slovakia Xpress, the group is now introducing services to strategic destinations closer to home. By developing such international connections that customers want, and combining them with an optimised and reliable rail offer, the company capitalises fully on opportunities for commercial growth.
The Xpedys Rotterdam Shuttle
The Xpedys Rotterdam Shuttle transports conventional and intermodal cargo to and fro Belgium and Rotterdam 5 times a week. B Logistics sees to the traction (AB) and works together with Locon Benelux for the last mile operations. This connection is used mainly to connect the Dutch harbours and industry with the international network from Belgium.
The Xpedys Köln Shuttle
The Xpedys Köln Shuttle transports conventional and intermodal cargo to and fro Belgium and Cologne. B Logistics sees to the traction (AA) and works with local partners for the last mile operations. The Köln Shuttle connects the Rhur Valley with the seaports of Antwerp and Rotterdam and the European hinterland. This fast and very reliable connection between important economic hubs has been established primarily at the request of customers from the chemical industry.
For the commercial activities for the intermodal loads B Logistics collaborates with intermodal operator IFB.

Station Managers’ Global Group (SMGG) held on 3 June 2015 in Madrid
On 3 June 2015 the SMGG meeting took place in Madrid at the kind invitation of ADIF and the Spanish Railway Foundation.
SMGG is the UIC group dedicated to railway stations. It comprises station managers of UIC members.
UIC members represented at the meeting were: ADIF, ONCF, SNCF, NSB, SNCB, RFI, RZD, SYSTRA and Japanese Railways.
UIC Headquarters was represented by Iñaki Barrón (Director of the High Speed and Passenger Department) and Marc Guigon (Senior Advisor for Passenger Transport).
The main points discussed at the SMGG meeting were:
The leaflet concerning information and signage in stations (413) will be updated and extended at global level. Answering UIC specifications, SYSTRA proposed a methodology to update the leaflet
Governance of stations. RZD proposed a document describing the different types of governance for stations “Station Governance: Models and Practice”
The observatory for rail stations, which is a UIC website available for use by UIC members, will be developed with data and information from members (statistics, studies, mapping, organisations…). The functional specifications were written by UIC, and a first pilot test of the website will be available for the Next Station conference
The next meeting will take place in Marrakech (Morocco) on 20 October 2015.

Scientific Committee of the 5th Next Station Conference
On 4 June 2015 the Scientific Committee of the 5th Next Station Conference meeting took place in Madrid, at the kind invitation of ADIF and the Spanish Railway Foundation.
The main points discussed during the Scientific Committee of Next Station were:
Organisation of speeches during the opening session, the opening plenary session and the round table: “Trends and Challenges of Intermobility”.
Review of proposal of speakers.
The parallel sessions were organised around eight topics:
Development and management of stations (concepts, business approach, station to hub management, governance, urban integration, etc.)
Comprehensive protection (management of public spaces and intermodal security, feeling of security, design impacts, etc.)
Stations for high speed services (which specific services, traffic trend, flows management, impact on territories, etc.)
UIC activities and academic research
A poster session will be organised for academic projects.

Israel Railways take part in the International Level Crossing Awareness Day
Israel Railways took part in the International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) for the fourth time. IR delegates assigned at level crossings and nearby petrol stations gave road drivers brochures and branded presents in order to raise awareness.
Traffic police is cooperating with IR focusing on enforcement at level crossings for a whole week nationwide.
According to Mr Boaz Zafrir, CEO of Israel Railways, IR is one of the world leaders in development and implementation of advanced technological means to improve safety at level crossings. Nevertheless even that is not capable of stopping a train running at high speed when a vehicle enters a level crossing having passed the closed barrier and red light.
In 2014 18,000 road vehicles entered the level crossing area after barriers started to lower, causing trains emergency breakings and risking human lives. 79 barriers where broken and level of service was influenced by weekly train delays of 350 minutes on average.
Almost all level crossing accidents are caused by the dangerous behaviour of road users.
Over the last ten years the number of level crossings in Israel has been reduced by 50% from 152 in 2005 to 75 through a 600,000,000 NIS investment in level separations.
In addition new technologies have been developed and implemented in the short run on level crossings:
Advance traffic lights – in order to enhance level crossing visibility and to prevent vehicles entering the area in case of queue gliding.
VMD cameras – Video Motion Detection in order to detect a vehicle standing on the track and send an emergency alarm to the Safety Centre.
Radar scanners – Detecting level crossing after barriers are closed. In case of vehicle in the LX adjacent train signals are set automatically to Danger and ATP is activated.
Loop Detectors – Detecting the level crossing after barriers are closed. In case of vehicle in the LX a danger announcement is transmitted to nearby train drivers and to the Safety Centre.
Advance Road Signage – usually located in front of level crossings with pure visibility from the road driver’s point of view.
Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS) invited a UIC representative to take a ride on the new Frecciarossa 1000 high speed train on 5 June.
The train departed at 09:30 from Rome Termini Station, arriving at 12:35 at Milan Centrale Station.
Mr Michele Elia, FS CEO and UIC Vice Chairman, Italian parliamentary members, representatives of local authorities, as well as journalists, attended the test run.
Frecciarossa 1000 has smooth high acceleration while also being a silent train that creates less noise and contains vibration created during high-speed operation.
Thanks to a top speed of 400 km/h and a commercial speed of 360 km/h, the new Frecciarossa will shorten the distances in Italy and in Europe. Travel times between all European Capitals affected by the high speed network will be further reduced, thus making the train even more competitive compared to the plane, the bus and the car. Frecciarossa 1000 will start commercial service on the Italian high speed network on 14 June 2015.
The onboard signalling devices installed in the train comply with the European rail traffic management system (ERTMS), which allows for the integration of different national signalling systems and automatic train protection (ATP) systems in Europe. It renders interoperability on all European high speed networks, including Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Holland and Belgium.
The train is designed with advanced energy-saving technology and has a range of sustainable features. Light alloys are used for the carriage casings and furniture elements of the train that can be recovered at the end of their lifecycle. The train is made with 95% renewable materials while 85% of its materials are recyclable.

Colpofer Cybercrime working group under chairmanship of Sergey Adadurov (RZD)
Saint-Petersburg, 4 – 5 June 2015
The 5th meeting of the working group was held in St Petersburg at the invitation of Russian Railways from 4 – 5 June 2015.
The objective of the group is to exchange experience and information related to cyber crime in the railway environment and to establish recommendations regarding data protection.
UIC was represented by Marc Antoni, Director of UIC Rail System Department and Marie-Hélène Bonneau from the UIC Security Division.
Russian best practices were presented by RZD as well as the Petersburg State Transport University. In addition, presentations on national experiences were given by SNCF (French Railways), PKP PLK (Polish infrastructure manager) and FSI (Italian Railways).
A draft document on “Guidelines for Using Forces and Tools to Prevent and Detect Computer Attacks against Railway Transport Information Infrastructure” prepared by RZD was then discussed.
The result of the working group will be presented at the spring conference of Colpofer to be held from 11 – 12 June 2015 in Utrecht.

Questionnaire on “Information about last mile infrastructure for rail freight” now online
Last December, UIC in partnership with Hacon were granted a contract to carry out the EU funded study “User-friendly access to information about last-mile infrastructure for rail freight”.
The structure of the European rail freight market has profoundly changed over the past decades with the separation of network management and train operation in most countries, new market entrants appearing etc. This situation is particularly challenging for last-mile operation. DG Move has therefore taken the step to help the market with a customer-oriented web-based portal offering all the necessary information on last-mile infrastructure – be it terminals, industrial sidings, stations, shunting yards etc.
In the context of this study UIC ran two stakeholder workshops designed to assess market needs as well as information accessibility. The workshops helped identify user needs, supplier needs, as well as the potential constraints that may be faced in the development of a pilot information portal.

Train to Paris Campaign – 5 months to go!
The members of the steering committee for the “Train to Paris” campaign met on 3 June 2015 at UIC headquarters in Paris to discuss the next steps of the campaign. Members shared the ongoing preparation of each train and their programme: conferences, debates, activities to raise awareness during their journey to France.
Less than 200 days remain before trains from across Asia and Europe arrive in Paris before COP21, the United Nations Conference on Climate Change. These trains will be bringing not only leading figures and experts in sustainable development but also NGOs, youth organizations, and members of civil society united in the goal of building a sustainable future and promoting rail as one of the backbones of sustainable transport systems.
Now is the time to start sharing the details of this unprecedented event with the greatest possible number of people. Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, UIC Director General, had the opportunity to present this Campaign to Transport Ministers during the International Transport Forum in Leipzig last week.

Mrs Irina Doina Vlad (23 January 1968 – 2 June 2015)
Mrs Irina Doina Vlad (23 January 1968 – 2 June 2015), a graduate of the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest and a Master of International Affairs – Academy of Economic Studies, had worked as an engineer within CFR since October 1992, and started in July 1999 at the Department of International Affairs of the National Railway Passenger Transportation Company “CFR Calatori”. Due to her outstanding professional merits, she was later promoted within the company as Head of International Affairs Dept. and then Director of International Affairs.
During her role exercised within CFR Calatori, she demonstrated solid professional training and successfully coped with challenges of various situations imposed by the work in international affairs. By the nature of her duties, she collaborated with international railway organisations and associations; she participated in various contract negotiations, discussions with consultants and foreign companies interested in the company’s activity, in organising international events at the general director level, etc.
During her entire career, she proved to be a responsible, trustworthy, communicative, enthusiastic and tenacious person, always ready to help her colleagues, being appreciated both by colleagues and all the people with whom she collaborated.
Tears and words cannot comprise the pain and regret before the “goodbye” message for our dear colleague, Irina Doina Vlad.
We thank and bring her our gratitude for all the years dedicated with professionalism to the railway sector.
She loved life, she loved her colleagues and she very much loved her job, but most of all, she loved Alexander, her only son.
We will never forget her kindness and smile in any difficult situation; we will never forget her ambition, free spirit, kind word and optimism.
UIC sends deepest condolences to her family and all her colleagues from Romania.
May her soul rest in peace!

Reminder - Workshop on “Safe loading – a vital issue involving all supply chain partners"

Rail is demonstrably the safest transport mode for freight – be it for conventional business or for combined transport. And as far as the latter is concerned, it represents the main growth sector of rail freight and a main vector of modal shift.
Safety is a concern for all actors in the logistics supply chain, not only for the railways but also the industrial shippers, road haulers, terminal managers, combined transport operators, and equipment manufacturers. All of them must know and comply with the proper implementation of the existing loading rules and directives, and use the adequate equipment.
UIC is pleased to invite you to contribute actively to the Workshop “Safe loading – a vital issue involving all supply chain partners.”
The conference will take place on 11 June 2015 at the UIC headquarters in Paris.
Working Party on Transport Trends and Economics (WP5) at the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)
At the beginning of June, UIC once again reinforced its relationship with the UN by attending the Working Party on Transport Trends and Economics (WP5) at the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
From 3 – 5 June 2015, UNECE held the 7th session of the Group of Experts on Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation for Transport Networks at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Following the approval of its establishment by EXCOM in 2011, the Group of Experts regularly meet twice a year. The group recalled the recent publication of the report (ECE/TRANS/238) “Climate Change, Impacts and Adaptation for International Transport Networks” containing several input from the railway experience. The Inland Transport Committee at its 76th session (25 February 2014) welcomed the outcome of the activities and endorsed the main recommendations: climate change adaptation strategies should be based on a real understanding and systematic mapping of vulnerabilities of the main networks within UNECE members to climate changes.
The first part of the meeting was devoted to developing an action plan for the 2015 – 2017 period. The group will have as objective to identify and establish inventories of transport networks which are vulnerable to climate change impacts in a Geographic Information System Environment and develop tools to address potential extreme hazards to selected inland transport infrastructure under different climate scenarios. The group is expected to submit a full report of its accomplishments by the end of 2017.
A lively discussion followed and experts exchanged views on how to structure the envisaged job. UIC, represented by Andrea Braschi, showcased the role of railways in developing research activities within transport adaptation facing climatic changes. He presented the project proposal that UIC submitted to the European Commission within the H2020 research programme. UIC intends to call for an expert group of key people from different sectors and activities (railways, roads, ports, universities, consultants) with knowledge about climate change adaptation to report on business case practices and will welcome the UNECE groups of experts.
UIC therefore looks forward to working with UNECE and widening its collaboration with the United Nations concerning awareness on transport and climate change adaptation.
