Questionnaire on AI and camera surveillance for preventing railway suicides, trepassing, and misbehaviour at level crossings

We wish to launch a questionnaire among two UIC working groups :

  • the TreSP-Network on trespass and suicide prevention issues and also
  • the Global Level Crossing Network (GLCN)

to get more information on potential onging projects or current efforts in the field of AI and camera surveillance for preventing railway suicides, trepassing, and misbehaviour at level crossings in foreign countries. We also wish to consider the existing gaps and find tailored solutions.

We would like to launch a UIC OPT-IN project on those issues and gather as much information as possible to present it to our railway members during a UIC project proposal workshop on 16 May 2023.
If the project is accepted, then it should start running in 2024 for up to 3 years. We need financial and in kind support.

The objective of this project is to better detect human behaviour through Artificial Intelligence (AI) at authorized locations (stations and level crossings) and unauthorized locations (tracks, depots, tunnels, bridges, rolling stock…) to improve safety of the public, our customers, train passengers and staff, reduce the number of trespassers into the railway property, prevent all those people from taking risks and finally prevent suicidal acts.

Counting on your support.

Deadline : end of April to be able to gather all information before the workshop.
