Title: “Noise from Parked Trains: Estimating Affected Population and Informing Limit Values”
Summary: The UIC Noise and Vibration Sector has launched a call for tenders under the NOVITÀ project to carry out a European-scale assessment of population exposure to noise from parked trains. The study will estimate the number of people potentially exposed to noise at stations, depots, and shunting yards, with a specific focus on noise generated by auxiliary systems such as HVAC units, compressors, and power supply equipment. It will apply simplified, map-based spatial analyses to identify residential areas affected by this type of noise and will provide technical evidence to support discussions on possible noise limit values. The assessment is intended to deliver order-of-magnitude exposure estimates.
