The Middle East Management Committee (MEMC) is the senior body in charge of strategically coordinating the UIC Regional Assembly Middle East (RAME) work programme at a regional level. The MEMC adopts a neutral stance in its works in order to take into account the interests of all RAME members.
The MEMC is the link between individual Member institutional representatives within the RAME and other UIC decision-making and working bodies. As such, the MEMC also oversees implementation of UIC General Assembly decisions within the RAME.
On March 7, 2022, Marc Guigon, Director of the UIC Passenger Department cum UIC Coordinator for the Middle-East and Latin-American Regions and UIC Covid-19 Taskforce Coordinator, participated in the 1st MEMC, chaired by RAME Chair Metin Akbaş TCDD, (Turkish State Railways), and attended by the RAME Vice-Chairs, Hossein Ashouri , RAI (Islamic Republic of Iran Railways) , Khaled Alharbi, SAR ( The Saudi Railway Company) and Zahi Khalil , JHR (Jordan railways).
UIC’s goal is to establish ties between and to improve #cooperation among RAME region #Railways.
During the MEMC, Mr Guigon presented the 2022 Action Plan and road map for UIC RAME Members, along with plans for the establishment of a ‘Vision 2050’ for the whole region.
Upcoming conferences and Webinars in the region:
- ‘UIC Middle East railway Tuesdays’. A series of bi-monthly webinars covering regionally specific topics.
- ‘Working Group on Sand and Temperature’. Special event concentrated on the effect of sand and temperature on the railways.
- Bi-monthly training hosted by MERTCe, Middle East center in Turkey TCDD, alternating with ‘Railway Tuesdays’
- Cooperation with other UIC Regions: Joint Workshops, Conferences, Training.
Ms Géhénot UIC Freight Director presented UIC freight work supporting UIC regions, and how this work could contribute to the RAME region.
