Christian Chavanel, Director of the Rail System Department since 2019, will now take up a new role as the Coordinator of the Africa region, in addition to his role as Rail System Director.
Christian Chavanel is a railway professional with more than 35 years’ experience in international development, project management, operation, maintenance, safety, standardisation, and regulatory affairs.
He is an engineer and holds an Executive MBA.
He has notably been:
1. Interoperability & Standardisation Director at SNCF from 2014 to 2019
2. Chairman of CEN-CENELEC Sector Forum Rail (ex-JPC-R) from 2016 to 2019
3. COO (SNCF Regional Transportation)
4. PMO (SNCF Regional Transportation)
5. Head of Paris Gare de Lyon station
6. Infrastructure District Manager
Christian Chavanel has already been heavily involved with François Davenne and Maria Lafont in the Africa region since the departure of succeeds Thierry Bera, the UIC former Finance Director and Coordinator to the Africa region.
Maria Lafont, who is currently coordinating the work for this region, will continue to help Mr Christian Chavanel.
Christian Chavanel says he is eager to continue working actively with the members of UIC Africa and bring forward an ambitious UIC Africa programme.
