Within the context of the UIC Alliance of Universities, Prof. Francesca Pagliara, member of the Alliance and Professor at the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering of the University of Naples Federico II, has promoted the 1st International Workshop on High-Speed Rail Socioeconomic Impacts. The aim of the workshop is to explore recent research on the analysis and quantification of the effects, both on the economy and on society, of investments in HSR systems.
The workshop opens with a Session where invited experts from Italy, both academics and operators of Ferrovie dello Stato, from UIC, from the Asian Development Bank Institute and from the California High-Speed Rail in the United States will provide their experience in this sector. The Vice-President of the UIC Alliance of Universities will be present as well.
A keynote will be given by Mr Marc Guigon, UIC Passenger Director, entitled “High-Speed Rail in the context of the new normal”.
The programme is divided into five sessions. In Session 1, a review of HSR socioeconomic impacts is provided. Session 2 deals with HSR appraisal methods and pricing policies. Session 3 deals with HSR impacts on productivity and tourism. Session 4 concerns HSR and Technologies and finally Session 5 presents the effects of HSR on Land use and on equity issues.
The workshop will be held online due to the ongoing uncertainty relating to the pandemic.
