UIC is launching its first global rail hackathon as part of a series of attractiveness measures targeting universities and railway undertakings. This first European hackathon is organised by the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Malaga within the framework of the ASTONRail Erasmus+ project.

The hackathon will focus on the question “How can railways be resilient in the face of pandemics?”, and offers participants and rail enthusiasts the opportunity to imagine the future and develop solutions for railway operators in order to be better prepared for pandemics. The hackathon will include various themes and activities, such as training, customer service on board trains and in stations, maintenance workshops, management of suspicious cases, communication and information, etc.

A European regional online competition, jointly organised with the ASTONRail project team and outreach activities in Žilina, Slovakia, will be held on 26 November, with a final contest at international level in May 2022 as part of the World Congress on Rail Training, Talent and Development (WCRT) in Moscow.

Participants can register free of charge. The deadline for registration is 30 September.
