Recently, Marc Guigon, Director of the Passenger Department of the International Union of Railways (UIC), visited the Chinese Transport University of South-West, located in Chengdu, and Vice President Kang Guozheng met with Marc Guigon. This University is a UIC member.
Kang Guozheng extended a warm welcome to Marc Guigon on his third visit to the university (following visits in 2011 and 2012) to participate in the International Rail Transit Academic Forum. Kang Guozheng briefly introduced the school’s international cooperation in recent years, especially its cooperation with UIC. He said that he was eager to take this meeting as an opportunity to further strengthen the close cooperative relationship with UIC and to promote cooperation in scientific research and talent training.
Marc Guigon introduced UIC’s activities and UIC’s cooperation with Chinese institutions and universities in recent years, and also expressed his hope to strengthen cooperation with Southwest Jiaotong Univer-sity in the field of railways, including the formulation of relevant standards and the promotion of talent-training projects.
At the panel discussion, Marc Guigon highlighted UIC’s history, its organisational structure, the important documents it has developed, the major events it has held and its extensive impact on the global railway field. Participants then presented the international exchange and cooperation of various units and col-leges, and explored the possibility of establishing or strengthening cooperation with UIC.
The meeting was attended by representatives from: the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education Foreign Exchange Center; the Chengdu Municipal Education Bureau Foreign Exchange Center; the Chengdu Eastern New Area Education Development Research Institute; the Sichuan Product Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Institute; the Shudao New System Rail Group; the Sichuan Dujin Shandi Rail Transit Co., Ltd.; the School of Design and Art; the School of Transportation and Logistics; the School of Smart City and Transportation; the School of Mechanics and Astronautics; the School of Me-chanical Engineering; the School of Information Science and Technology; the Institute of Science and Technology Development; the Research Center of International Academic Organizations; and the Insti-tute of Safety Technology.
In the afternoon, a symposium of experts on the work of international organisations was held, and Marc Guigon gave a special report on the current situation and development of high-speed railway around the world. Expert representatives from the School of Transportation and Logistics, the School of Electrical Engineering, the National Key Laboratory of Rail Transit Carrier System, the Institute of Higher Education, the School of Computer and Artificial Intelligence and other related schools had in-depth exchanges with Marc Guigon on a number of topics including: the application of AI technology in European railways; the development of maglev trains in global railways; the formulation of international standards in the railway field; railway maker competitions; international cooperation projects; and the application of internation-al awards.
The Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and the Center for International Academic Organi-zations of the University jointly invited Marc Guigon to organise this exchange event.
