On 18 and 19 July 2022, UIC took part in the Urban Rail Conference at Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast in Australia. The conference was well attended by the Australian transport industry whose representatives were very interested to hear about future developments in urban mobility, and the challenges that Australia and New Zealand face.
UIC was represented by Lucie Anderton, the UIC Head of Sustainability, who presented a both positive and ambitious vision for 2030, highlighting the numerous benefits of a mobility system with rail as its backbone and, also, the UIC strategy to help its members decarbonise. Lucie took the opportunity to inform the audience about initiatives from around the world to inspire a modal shift and transformation of cities and urban mobility. Tom Sargant, the UIC Pacific representative, was present in-person and welcomed UIC to the conference. Part of his role is helping to promote UIC activities in Australia.
The conference provided a great opportunity to connect with existing and potential new UIC members, raise UIC’s profile and increase the best practice of its members.
