Today, VIA Rail is pleased to be reaching key milestones in its sustainability journey with the unveiling of its five-year sustainability plan and its participation in the United Nations Global Compact.
In addition to targeting a reduction of its greenhouse gas emissions by 30% or more by 2030 (compared to 2005), VIA Rail aims to achieve multiple objectives by 2025, including offering a zero-waste experience on board trains in the Québec City-Windsor corridor and training 100% of its employees on sustainability. These are just a few examples of the ten goals contained in this plan spanning environmental, social and governance pillars.
As part of the plan, VIA Rail also recently became the first land transportation company in Canada to join the United Nations Global Compact, which is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative.
