The Innovation Workshops organised by the UIC Passenger Services Group cover technological trends and their impact on the rail industry. Each workshop combines pitches by industry experts, interactive sessions and co-creation activities enabled by digital collaboration tools.

The latest workshop took place in Rome on 14 September and discussed “The metaverse: threat or opportunity for travel providers?”

The next workshop will be held on 25 October 2023 at UIC Headquarters in Paris. The topic will be on “Designing rail products and passenger experiences in the digital era”, and examine the changing needs and habits of travellers, as well as best practices in product and service design that can be applied to passenger rail. The application of data-driven techniques and human-centred design when designing or improving digital and physical customer services will also be considered.

The workshop aims to support discussions about how the rail industry can address key challenges and take advantage of opportunities, such as by designing an eco-friendly customer experience, simplifying travel planning and shopping, and supporting passengers during disruptions.
