On 2 September, a Korean government delegation led by Mr Kim Hyoung Suk, Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transport Director General, together with 10 other directors and experts from different departments also from KORAIL and KRNA, visited UIC.

The delegation met UIC Director General Mr François Davenne and the Coordinator of the UIC Asia Pacific region Mr Vincent Vu.

They presented their experience regarding railway transport in Korea. Mr Davenne and Mr Vu in turn answered their requests by providing advice on technical issues such as railway standardisation in the areas of freight (Eurasian corridors, intermodality, competitiveness improvement, long trains, …), digital developments (the paperless initiative such as Intertran, …), railway telecoms, investments and also collaboration with international organisations such as UIC, considered by the delegation to be one of the leaders.

The main identified priority included the development of interoperability between Asia-Pacific and Europe, which is part of UIC’s strategy for the future and which Korea is positioning as a key player.
