Raildata is the UIC Special Group (http://www.raildata.coop/) providing IT applications and related services in the field of rail freight traffic. Raildata members represent a great majority of European railways with a coverage of over 70% of the rail freight transport sector in Europe. The main purpose of this Special Group is to:
- Optimise processes by means of centralised data exchange (design, develop and run IT services) in order to support its members’ freight railway business in Europe
- Provide collaborative IT solutions for RUs in the rail freight transport sector
- Raildata held its General Assembly in Vienna on 14 November, where each of its work streams were reviewed and development plans discussed
The contribution of Raildata to the digitalisation of rail freight processes is enormous. Discussions during the General Assembly left no ambiguity as to the drive of its members to accelerate the pace of implementation in Europe of some its products so to better support productivity and interoperability enhancements of the sector.
Raildata is also one of the key tools of the sector to support its common ambition to drive modal shift and reach the targets set in the vision of Rail Freight Forward (RFF) “30 by 2030”.
The meeting on 14 November also welcomed a new Chairman. Mark Verhulst from Lineas succeeds Michael Pfizner from DB Cargo who had to step down due to health reasons.
Upon his election Mark Verhulst thanked M Pfizner for the work done together with the Basel-based team led by Mrs Waldvogel. He also acknowledged the ambition of the members to drive digitalisation further in key areas of common interest.
The next General Assembly of Raildata is scheduled to take place on 2 June 2020 in Riga, on the fringe of the UIC Global Rail Freight Conference, the moto of which will be “Cutting edge technology for a new generation of freight mobility”.
