UIC will publish the eighth bi-annual report providing a comprehensive overview of the current situation of combined transport in Europe in 2020 in collaboration with the International Union for Road-Rail Combined Transport UIRR. Past reports can be found on the UIC webpage https://uic.org/freight/combined-transport/#documents

The 2020 edition of the “2020 Report on Combined Transport” compiles up-to-date information on rail/road combined transport volumes for the year 2019 for all market segments and gathers the market participants’ assessment on market structures and future developments. For this purpose, a market study on combined transport is currently being conducted throughout Europe by BSL Transportation Consultants, in which the main stakeholders in combined transport are surveyed.

A particular focus of the 2020 report lies on the presentation of regional disparities between selected regions in Europe, as well as on intermodal loading units (ILU), which are examined with regard to their use in combined transport. What is more, the study gives an overview of the role of terminals in the combined transport chain, their capacities and services offered.

The Combined Transport Group (CTG) being a statutory Special Group of the UIC represents the interests of Combined Transport Railways and therefore is aware of the value of market knowledge and statistics.

The results of the “2020 Report on Combined Transport” will be presented and published by the end of the year.
