One of the compelling ways to enhance freight sustainability is enhancing the role of rail in freight transport. In this regard, digitalization of rail operations and processes can further enhance operational efficiency and ability of rail to integrate seamlessly with other modes of transport thereby supporting measures to increase freight transported by rail.
With this in view, under the United Nations development account projects on Trade and transport connectivity in the age of pandemic and on Enhancing shift towards sustainable freight transport in Asia and Pacific region, ESCAP together with the UIC developed a capacity building activity on accelerating rail digital transformation in the region.
Accordingly, a regional capacity building workshop on accelerating rail digital transformation is being organized in Baku, Azerbaijan, and online on 3 November 2022 with an objective to deepen the understanding of the railway policy makers on ways to harness the potential of rail digitalization in supporting shift towards sustainable freight in North and Central Asia. The outcomes of the workshop would also feed into the regional strategy on rail digitalization that is being drafted as per the recommendations of the seventh meeting of the working group on the Trans-Asian Railway network.
We hope that it will be a great opportunity for all of you to broaden your understanding of railways in North and Central Asia and strengthen cooperation among ESCAP and UIC.
We are looking forward to welcoming you soon.
The workshop will be conducted in English and in Russian languages.
Complete workshop information, including technical guidance and virtual link, will be communicated to the participants upon receipt of their registration.
