REVERSE - Online Survey

Rail corridors can be both a hazard and a lifeline for ecosystems. As rail expands to meet the need to shift away from road travel, it must provide space for wildlife to thrive.

The International Union of Railways (UIC) are seeking solutions and best practice to manage rail lineside in an environmentally responsible way. The project Ecological Effects of Railways on Wildlife (rEvERsE) runs until 2023 and aims to improve the understanding of the impact of railways on biodiversity. In partnership with the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (UKCEH), the UIC with its members will develop a Biodiversity Action Plan and international guidance for railway operators and managers to support, protect and enhance our natural heritage.

Whilst undertaking a systematic literature review of the evidence on the topic of railways and biodiversity we are also building an understanding of the existing approach to biodiversity taken by UIC partners and the policy context (company, national and international) in which they are working. This survey aims to collect this information along with any associated literature you have available.

The survey will take around 30 minutes to complete.

Many thanks for supporting the rEvERsE project and if you have any questions about the survey or project please get in touch with
