Shaping the future of railway innovation: join the first RCH Europe Workshop on Innovation

12 January 2026

UIC is pleased to announce the launch of a new series of innovation workshops organised within the framework of the Regional Competence Hubs (RCH) of the International Railway Research Board (IRRB). The first workshop will be dedicated to the Europe region and will take place online on 12 January 2026, from 09:00 to 12:00 CET.

This new series marks an important step in the implementation of Vision 2026, which defines the IRRB as a global, collaborative and continuously active innovation network. Central to this transformation is the creation of six Regional Competence Hubs, each designed to make research and innovation more agile, regionally grounded and globally connected. RCHs will enable members, research institutes, universities and industry partners to share expertise, co-design projects and deliver solutions tailored to regional needs while remaining aligned with UIC’s overall strategy.

About the workshop

The inaugural workshop will be presented in cooperation with CESAMES, an international expert organisation in systems architecture and collaborative innovation. The session will:

  • Introduce the purpose and function of the Regional Competence Hub for innovation in Europe
  • Explain how RCHs contribute to the new IRRB operating model
  • Provide a first space exchange for members on innovation, research priorities and collaborative opportunities
  • Outline opportunities for participation in the 2026–2028 work programme

This event marks the start of a continuous cycle of cooperation, supported by the IRRB and fully integrated within UIC’s global research and innovation framework.
