Background
Demands on railway organisations are changing: liberalisation, internationalisation/global market and supply chain, technical harmonisation and new technologies, as well as increasing service expectations, new social frameworks, demographic challenges and the loss of corporate knowledge.
These challenges also affect the competencies and skills of railway personnel.
The core objective of the Talent & Expertise Development Platform, coordinated by the UIC Expertise Development Unit & chaired by FS, is to enhance the effective operation of the different regional railway training markets, hence enhancing workforce development through sharing best practice in rail training across the entire industry.
Mission
- to promote excellence in railway training through best practice models;
- to identify new challenges and solutions for training & training technologies;
- to provide a unique opportunity to share knowledge & experience amongst training professionals & managers.
Expected outputs
Having skilled trainers & a well trained workforce is leading to:
- reduction of overall costs;
- improved business performance;
- enhance employees retention;
- improved safety through better training & assessment;
- maximise training efficiency & effectiveness and bring consistency throughout UIC members;
- contributing to make railways a more competitive and innovative sector.
