Chair and Vice-Chairs of the International Rail Research Board

The UIC International Rail Research Board (IRRB) invites applications for the positions of Chairperson and Vice-Chairs for a three-year mandate beginning on 1 January 2026, in line with the IRRB Terms of Reference.

Eligibility and Selection Process
According to articles 6.1 and 6.2 of the IRRB Terms of Reference:

  • Positions are conferred personally and not to the UIC member company.
  • Each term is three years, renewable once.
  • Candidates must demonstrate expertise in research and/or a strategic vision of the railway innovation landscape.

The IRRB Steering Committee and the IRRB Plenary session will be involved in reviewing all candidates. Final recommendations will be submitted to the UIC Director General and presented at the UIC General Assembly.

Application Process
Interested individuals must submit their application no later than 12 July 2025. A complete application includes:

  • A cover letter stating the UIC Region the candidate wishes to represent, and your interest in functioning as Chair or Vice-Chair;
  • A professional CV;
  • At least one letter of support from a UIC member railway organization.

Selection Criteria
Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of the research and innovation priorities globally and in the candidate region of origin
  • Experience in establishing networks with researchers in the candidate’s region of origin
  • Willingness to act as a representative for the Region with support from the UIC Member for travel and time allocation.
