Title: "Reuse and recycling of concrete sleepers (Circular Sleepers)”
Summary:
The UIC Railway System Department has launched a new project on the reuse and recycling of concrete sleepers, supporting the shift toward a 100% circular railway system.
The two-year project will:
• Define technical requirements for sleeper reusability and recycling.
• Assess innovative approaches to extend service life and reduce carbon impacts.
• Deliver new UIC International Guidelines (IRS) on circularity for concrete sleepers.
We are looking for a supplier (consultancy and/or university to provide coordination, technical expertise, research, and project management support) across three work packages:
• Reusability
• Recyclability
• Development of IRS guidelines
This is part of the UIC’s WIDER Circularity Track Initiative, which covers sleepers, ballast, rail, fastenings, and more.
