The UIC Sustainability Platform will be holding the 2023 ‘Sustainability Action Week’ in Paris, between 27 February and 2 March 2023. Register now for your free place!

A broad range of interactive sessions will be held in-person in Paris in the week-long ‘mix and match’ action packed event. The week will bring together those passionate about making sustainable changes in the railway sector to exchange ideas, share knowledge, and learn from each other. The event will also be an ideal opportunity to make new connections and catch up with likeminded colleagues.

I’m really excited about welcoming the members and partners to Paris. I’m sure that there will be lots of networking and that it will generate lots of ideas for future projects to make railways even more sustainable.” says Lucie Anderton, Head of Sustainability at UIC.

The programme will cover topics from across the UIC Sustainability Platform sectors and projects. Action Week will begin on the Monday with a focus on biodiversity and will be hosted by the Sustainable Land Use sector and the EU-funded Project BISON. The Tuesday will include a Zero Waste Railways workshop with best practices on circular outflows, with the contribution of sustainability provocateur and cultural protagonist Dr. Leyla Acaroglu to inspire the audience. The Railway Noise Days will be held over both the Tuesday and Wednesday, and have been jointly curated by UIC’s Noise and Vibration Sector (Sustainability) and Train Track Interaction Sector (Rail System). The sessions will be designed to spark new ideas and encourage knowledge sharing through interactive activities. Wednesday will be a day fully dedicated to the Energy Saving Taskforce’s best practice exchange, which will be the culmination of the taskforce’s web meetings, communicating and showcasing the most effective solutions and agreeing on next steps for action in this area. The week will end with a final workshop on Thursday 2 March on sustainable finance and celebrate the first Rail Sustainability Index. The final workshop will share and commend the railway’s successes in sustainability and facilitate dialogue between the railway finance and sustainability communities as well as experts from third parties such as private investors and multilateral development banks.
