Introduction
Governments are encouraged to invest in transport infrastructure while being considerate of sustainable development. Plans for the expansion, improvement and broader adoption of railways are expected to be addressed in many government agendas, especially with the implementation of the European Green Deal. The railway community members continue to work actively in academia, in laboratories and in the field to become a better neighbour by reducing its environmental and health impacts.
Moving European rail forward into the future, the joint undertaking Shift2Rail fosters the introduction of trains that are not only quieter, more comfortable and more dependable but also operate on an innovative rail network. The EU-funded FINE-2 project is forming three workstreams to investigate means of enabling integrated mobility management (I2M), saving energy and reducing inconvenient noise and vibration. Specifically, the Fine-2 project will develop tools to help experts understand the energy saving potential. It will also improve tunnel resistance characteristic methodologies and enhance energy norms to reflect future developments.
In this context, the UIC Noise and Vibration Sector will set up an online webinar to show its support for research activities on noise reduction from railways and to increase incentives for the development of railways to reduce noise at source. Therefore, you are invited to the “UIC - Focus on Fine2” event, to be held online on Tuesday November 2nd from 14 pm to 15:30 pm in CET.
Agenda
Event highlights will be as follows:
- Welcome and introduction to the project by Rüdiger Garburg at DB, FINE 2 project representator, UIC Noise and Vibration expert
- Exterior noise tools validation (WP6) by Rita Caminal Barderi, Alstom
- Noise sources separation (WP7) by Ainara Gurial Garcia, CAF
- Q&A and concluding remarks by Rüdiger Garburg
