SUSTAINABLE RAILWAYS – 1ST ZERO WASTE RAILWAYS WORKSHOP AND UIC SP PLENARY MEETING

01 AND 02 JUNE 2022, BERLIN Radisson Collection Hotel, Berlin (Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse 3, Berlin 10178) Germany

The UIC invites its members to participate in a 2-day sustainability focused event to take place on the occasion of the 11th International Railway Summit. This is an opportunity to bring together experts in the UIC community to network and benefit from in-person interactions, while thinking of critical topics for the railway sector regarding sustainable mobility.

The event will be divided into two days:

1 June: Zero Waste Railways Workshop – Part 1: Circular inflows

This hybrid workshop will be the first of a 2-part series of zero waste workshops (part 2 will be Circular Outflows planned for Autumn 2022). The workshop is dedicated to sharing knowledge on how to improve the circularity of all material flows coming into the railway system. We will hear from experts in this area on what can be done to further support the transition towards a more resource efficient rail sector including buying non-virgin products that have recycled content or products that can be re-used or easily recycled after use. The session will touch upon how procurement processes, supply chain collaboration and technical specifications can be harnessed to make innovative changes to the material inflows into the railways.

2 June: Sustainability Plenary meeting

We invite UIC members to join us at the UIC Sustainability Platform plenary meeting where we will have an opportunity to work together on the critical topics of sustainability in our sector and shape the key messages that UIC should be advocating as the voice for railways.
